Texas Longhorns Steve Sarkisian Acclaims Unused DL Coach Kenny Pastry specialist

Despite being a staple of the program with his old oversized hoodie, Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis is no longer with the program.

This past offseason he took the same job at LSU, leading to the Longhorns turning to former Miami Dolphins assistant defensive line coach, Kenny Baker, who was a part of a staff that helped lead Miami to an 11-6 record this past year and a spot in the wildcard.

After they assembled one of the most potent run-stopping fronts in college football history, Byron Murphy II and T’Vondre Sweat were selected by the NFL Draft, and he will now have the responsibility of leading this team to success.

In a Tuesday media appearance, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian lauded Baker and mentioned how the players truly seemed to like him.

Steve Sarkisian stated on Tuesday, “I think they’re responding really well to him.” “One thing Kenny provides is a ton of energy, a ton of juice.”

He also mentioned how he can help pass rushers and interior linemen by providing guidance and teaching to every position across the line.

“He’s a really good technician and not just (with) the interior defensive linemen, he’s got a lot of pass rush to his repertoire,” Sarkisian stated. “I believe it’s his enthusiasm, what he offers, and his desire to help each person in the room grow. Just coaching the men who have been here for three or four years is easy, right? We must mentor everyone of them. Each and every one of our guys is being developed.
I think Kenny has really bought into that. I think all the guys in that room understand that and are working to get better.”

To fill the vacuum left by Sweat and Murphy, the Longhorns are anticipated to look to Vernon Broughton, Alfred Collins, and Arizona transfer Tiaoalii Savea, among others. Many are tuned into this position war, and because of this group’s inexperience, many fans and analysts are concerned.
