Coventry City manager responds to Leeds United’s result and “unbelievable” statement following his team’s first defeat in 16 games with, “It’s a joke.
Mark Robins, the manager of Coventry City, expressed his pride in his team’s performance against Daniel Farke’s team, which the long-serving Sky Blues leader called “a joke.”
Following Saturday afternoon’s 2-1 victory over the Whites, Robins praised Leeds’ resources and capacity to cause injuries to opposing teams at his post-match news conference at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Despite a late charge by Farke’s team, Coventry caused Leeds’ first defeat of 2024. As a result, Leeds dropped to third place in the Championship table as a result of other results.
Former Manchester United player Robins praised his team’s use of the gameplan against a strong Leeds team that saw Wales’ Connor Roberts and Italy’s youngest-ever goal scorer, Willy Gnonto, come on as second-half substitutes and welcomed back Bulgarian international Ilia Gruev into the starting lineup.
“You come up against a top team with top players, with pace, with power, with quality, with know-how, they attack that you speed,” Robins stated. “To start, I felt we did a fairly good job of defending when it was necessary. We may have taken a few shots during the game, but overall we played a pretty solid and composed defense. We gained a little bit more control and ball possession when we were composed.
We were without it for a lot longer in the second half than the first as we began to wear down. At that point, they made adjustments and brought on all of the international players.Robins also praised Farke for his individual substitutions in the second half, saying they made it harder for the home team to control the game.
“We didn’t mean to come in and go away; instead, we needed to try and engage them a little bit higher up the field, but they really made some smart changes. You need a little bit of a cushion against them.” The team is ridiculous, Connor Roberts is a great attacking threat, Gray moves into midfield in place of Kamara, and Gruev, who returned to the team today, sits on the bench. However, we were able to keep things mostly blocked off.
“Jake Bidwell is there to clear when Milan [van Ewijk] gets inside and it’s going in. He’s a real live wire, unbelievable quality, and he’s dealt with Summerville better than anyone I’ve seen this season.””We didn’t mean to drop in and walk away; instead, we needed to try and engage them off the line with a diving header. It’s just a joke, ridiculous, fantastic. You need a little bit of a cushion against them.” Hence, given their labor rate, they merit it.”Next Tuesday, Leeds will have a chance to resume their winning ways when they host Sunderland, while Coventry will still be vying for a play-off spot at the end of the campaign.
