The Chicago Blackhawks have concluded their season, but six of their players are still competing for their respective countries in the 2024 IIHF World Championship. Connor Bedard, who had an impressive rookie season worthy of the Calder Trophy, continued his strong performance by scoring two goals in Canada’s 4-2 victory over Great Britain in the opening game of the tournament.

Bedard’s goals both occurred in the second period, with his first proving to be the game-winner. The first goal came as a result of Olen Zellweger’s shot deflecting off the boards and finding Bedard in front of the net, who buried it with a top-shelf shot after a touch from Michael Bunting. Shortly after, Bedard capitalized on a pass from Nick Paul during a rush up the ice to score his second goal of the game.

Despite Great Britain pulling one back in the third period, Canada held on for a two-goal victory. Bedard ended the game with two goals on four shots in 15 minutes and 32 seconds of ice time.

Bedard and Team Canada will play again on Sunday at 9:20 AM CT against Denmark. Given Bedard’s performance in the tournament opener, it’s likely he will continue to contribute significantly to the team’s success.
