Bills add two-time Super Bowl champ to new-look WR room

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen will have a significantly different set of weapons at his disposal in the upcoming 2024 season.

The Bills allowed wide receiver Gabe Davis to depart in free agency to the Jaguars and traded wideout Stefon Diggs to the Texans in April. However, they recently added another dynamic playmaker to help fill the void.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling intends to sign a one-year contract with the Bills, valued at up to $4.5 million, which includes a $1.125 million signing bonus.

Valdes-Scantling garnered interest from several other teams, including the Chargers and Saints, but ultimately chose to join forces with Allen after starting his career alongside Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

The 29-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs, amassing 63 receptions for 1,002 yards and three touchdowns. His impactful plays, including crucial catches in key moments, notably in the playoffs against Buffalo last season, may have influenced the Bills’ decision to bring him aboard, given his contributions to Kansas City’s consecutive Super Bowl victories.

Valdes-Scantling enters a revamped Bills wide receiver group, which now includes 2024 first-round draft pick Keon Coleman, as well as experienced veterans Curtis Samuel, Chase Claypool, and Mack Hollins.

Despite his occasional struggles with consistency and drops over the past seasons, particularly contributing to the Chiefs’ league-leading number of dropped passes, the Bills are optimistic that Valdes-Scantling can replicate his strong performances from the latter part of the 2023 season and aid in overcoming postseason challenges.

As Buffalo undergoes significant changes in its receiving corps, the team has undoubtedly surrounded Allen with ample talent, despite the departure of key targets like Diggs and Davis over recent years.
