Coventry City chief executive to leave after seven years in role
Boddy has dedicated nearly seven years to his role at the club, having joined in February 2017, shortly before Mark Robins returned as manager. During his tenure, the club has experienced significant successes, including three appearances at Wembley, two promotions, and winning the EFL Trophy. Boddy played a crucial role in resolving the club’s stadium rent dispute and overseeing a change in ownership. He also helped maintain steady progress following Doug King’s ownership takeover a year ago.
Boddy, who has previously worked in sports administration roles at various organizations, including Worcestershire CCC, the Football Conference, Worcester City, and Newport County, has decided to step down from his position on good terms. He plans to take a break to recharge, expressing confidence in King’s vision for the club’s future.
King acknowledges Boddy’s substantial contributions to the club’s improvement during his tenure, praising his support for the club’s direction under King’s ownership. Mark Robins, the City manager, expresses gratitude for Boddy’s assistance and collaboration over the past seven years, highlighting his integral role in decision-making processes.
Reflecting on his time with the Sky Blues, Boddy shares his decision to leave, noting his involvement in the restructuring process initiated by King. Despite facing numerous challenges, including stadium issues, ground-sharing arrangements, and the impact of the pandemic, Boddy takes pride in the club’s remarkable achievements under Robins and assistant manager Adi Viveash. He emphasizes the resilience displayed in overcoming adversity, particularly in securing a 10-year agreement to return to the Arena before facing setbacks due to Wasps’ bankruptcy.
Despite these challenges, the club has experienced growth in attendance and improved relations with supporters, transitioning from a previously toxic environment to a more positive one during Boddy’s tenure. Overall, Boddy reflects on his time with pride, highlighting the club’s achievements against considerable odds and expressing gratitude for the relationships forged during his tenure.
