BREAKING: City’s new pick brings versatility.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ 2024 draft class has added a new layer of depth and talent to the team’s roster, and one player who stands out is fourth-round pick Jaden Hicks. The safety out of Washington State University brings a unique combination of skills and experience that could make him an integral part of the Chiefs’ secondary this season.

Hicks’ impressive college stats, including 79 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, six passes defensed, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, and a forced fumble in 12 starts last season, showcase his versatility and ability to make an impact on the field. Despite being projected as a top-100 selection by multiple outlets, Hicks fell to the fourth round, where the Chiefs snatched him up with the 133rd overall pick.

One of Hicks’ greatest strengths is his adaptability. During his time at Washington State, he played all over the defense, logging snaps at deep safety, in the box, and over the slot. This flexibility will allow the Chiefs to use him in various ways, potentially as the team’s free safety and as the third safety in Nickel and Dime looks.

Hicks’ durability is another asset he brings to the table. He appeared in every one of Washington State’s 26 games over the last two seasons, demonstrating his reliability and ability to withstand the physical demands of the game.

Defending the run is another area where Hicks excels. His willingness to tackle and physicality will fit right in with the Chiefs’ defensive scheme, which requires cornerbacks and safeties to be aggressive and effective tacklers.

“Jaden is a talented player who brings a lot of versatility to our secondary,” said Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. “We’re excited to see him develop and contribute to our team this season.”

With the Chiefs’ strong track record of developing defensive players, Hicks is in good hands. He’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced veterans and hone his skills under the guidance of the team’s coaching staff.

As the Chiefs prepare for the 2024 season, Jaden Hicks is one player to watch. His unique combination of skills, experience, and versatility makes him an intriguing addition to the team’s secondary, and fans should be excited to see him take the field in the coming months.
