Billy Price, a former offensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 29 due to concerns regarding a blood clot.
Price, who was originally drafted in the first round by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018, shared on social media that he underwent emergency surgery for a pulmonary embolism last month to address a blood clot affecting both of his lungs.
Describing the experience as “terrifying,” Price expressed gratitude for his survival before confirming his retirement.
“In the blink of an eye, everything can be taken away,” Price wrote on Instagram.
“On April 24th I had emergency pulmonary embolism surgery to remove a saddle clot that was entering both of my lungs.
I am truly thankful to be alive today.”
Due to the risks associated with being on blood thinners, Price made the decision to retire from the NFL.
While with the Cowboys in 2023, he primarily served on the practice squad and did not participate in any games.
In addition to his time with Dallas, Price also had stints with the Bengals for three years and the Arizona Cardinals for one year.
Prior to his professional career, he played college football at Ohio State University.
