Sad News: Braves general manager set to leave.
The Braves 2024 campaign hasn’t gotten off to the start anyone imagined after winning 104 games last season, but it’s far from a lost season. Positive regression is expected eventually and additions to the roster via trade can oftentimes have a domino-like effect on everybody else. It’s going to take some savvy moves, but few have proven better in that department than Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos.
Beyond the plethora of brilliant moves Alex Anthopoulos has made over his tenure in Atlanta, one thing that really stands out about him is his transparency. He’s not going to talk specifics when it comes to negotiations of any kind, but he has a fantastic understanding of the pulse of the fan base. He knows it’s his job to take accountability when things are going awry, even if it’s not his fault, and that’s exactly what he did ahead of the Braves contest with the Orioles on Wednesday night.
In place of Brian Snitker, it was Alex Anthopoulos that took questions from the media. He discussed a number of topics, but the one everybody is anxious to hear about is the trade discussions. Are the Braves close to making a deal?
Of course, Anthopoulos could not expand on such things, but he did say he’s been more active this season than in recent years this far away from the trade deadline. Although there is nothing imminent, he is leaving no stone unturned.
Alex Anthopoulos also discussed how the rest of the National League, for the most part, has struggled as well this season. Unfortunately, that doesn’t apply to the Philadelphia Phillies, who have played better than anyone and are threatening to run away with the NL East by the All-Star break. However, the point remains that the Braves are still in very good standing when it comes to the Wild Card race despite playing some abysmal baseball.
I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say it again: trades rarely happen this far away from the trade deadline. Expecting something soon might drive you crazy, but eventually, Alex Anthopoulos is going to swing multiple trades to get this team help.
