Beneath the surface, it’s not difficult to understand the viewpoint that Bamford will remain a Leeds player into a seventh year.

By far the best season of his career – the 2020-21 campaign without fans inside stadiums – saw him net 17 Premier League goals, forcing him into the England setup.

However, since then, goalscoring form and steering clear of injury has often been an issue to rear its head, much to the frustration of many inside Elland Road who argued his flashes of brilliance were just that.

Reportedly earning a £70k weekly wage which was slashed by at least half following relegation, Bamford’s salary is a key factor in repelling clubs from pursuing an experienced and clearly skilled number nine when fit.

Whilst Daniel Farke may not have an immense need for Bamford as his talisman next season, it may look as though his Leeds United career will continue into the promotion push of 2024-25.

But with the club needing to balance the books this month and recoup funds from player sales, there will certainly be an openness to approaches for the 30-year-old and several of his teammates.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on 14 January, Jones reported: “They’ve got this situation around Sinisterra to deal with because they have still got him on their books. Although he is out on loan, I’m told that he could have a future at Leeds.

“I’ve seen people playing this down because of fallouts that he has had in the past at the club, but I don’t think that matters and Sinisterra is still good enough to have a future at Leeds.”

Complications surrounding the deal had understandably left a sour taste in the mouth of many at Elland Road, with Farke and the 49ers likely among them, and nobody would have felt a return was on the cards for the winger.

It was also reported in the summer [Yorkshire Evening Post, 2 September] that Bournemouth had the option to buy inserted into the loan deal which would see Leeds receive in excess of the £20million they had paid to bring him to Yorkshire in the first place.
