Transfer News: Pirate set veteran midfielder on the market price of R2.8 million.
Monare started his professional football career at the University of Pretoria in 2009 and went on to join FC AK, who were also participating in the National First Division back in the 2011/12 season.
The Embalenhle-born star then joined Jomo Cosmos after spending one season with FC AK. But he made his name at the now-defunct Bidvest Wits where he won his first league trophy in the 2016/17 campaign.
The 34-year-old moved to Orlando Pirates after Wits was sold in 2020, and he went on to spend four seasons before he was shown the exit door.
Last season for the Sea Robbers, Monare made 18 appearances in all competitions but he could not register any assists or score a goal.
The 34-year-old midfielder won the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8 trophy last season and helped the club finish in position two, which saw them qualify for next season’s Caf Champions League.
He was also part of the Bafana Bafana team that won a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast earlier this year.
Pirates have already confirmed that Monare will be leaving the club when his contract runs out at the end of this month.
Upon his departure announcement, he has been linked with Cape Town City, AmaZulu FC, Stellenbosch FC, and the PSL newly promoted side Magesi FC.
However, it is SuperSport United who are understood to have shown more interest in signing the former Jomo Cosmos captain ahead of the upcoming season.
According to Transfermarkt, the current market value of Monare is R2.8 million [€150K]. Considering his experience in South African football, the price might be low.
However, ‘Dash’ as he is affectionately known, is now a free agent and that means the potential suitors won’t find it difficult to snatch him.
For Monare, joining SuperSport United would be a perfect move considering that he once worked with coach Gavin Hunt.
Hunt and the veteran midfielder have a good relationship dating back to 2016 at The Clever Boys and could get along together once more.
Apart from that, the midfielder could help the Tshwane outfit with his experience as the club is known for mostly playing youngsters.
