Great News: dragons veteran hooker nominated for 2024 Ken Stephen Medal.
The Dragons are proud to announce that Jacob Liddle has been nominated for the 2024 Ken Stephen Medal.
The Ken Stephen Medal – Man of the Year recognizes the efforts of an NRL player who has not only achieved on the field but has committed time off the field to community projects.
Dragons Community’s mission is to have a positive impact on people’s lives within our community and Liddle supports, believes in, and represents this mission in everything that he is involved in.
Liddle has been engaged in grassroots programs throughout his time at the club with his involvement including attendance at local junior league clubs, school assemblies, and community events.
He is always among the first to interact with guests who attend training sessions which this year has included members of the Salvation Army, Aruma disability service provider groups, NRL School to Work Youth Ambassadors and numerous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders youth during the NRL’s Indigenous Round.
Outside of his regular club commitments, he has become an ambassador for Heroes with Ability (HWA) – a relationship that evolved from his time at the Wests Tigers and continued when a HWA group attended a Dragons training session late last year.
He has since gone on to lend his time to numerous HWA gala days in Sydney and, in the lead-up to the club’s Round 26 clash, will be working with Dragons Community to showcase HWA as our 50-50 Match Day Charity Raffle partner – a result of his ongoing partnership with the organisation.
Liddle has played a key role in the club’s The Best You Can Be health and well-being program which, this year, will be delivered to 104 schools and 9,373 students from within our catchment.
He volunteered to sponsor his former school Kanwal Public School on the Central Coast, as well as Flinders Public School in the Illawarra – two schools that would not have been involved otherwise.
Liddle’s willingness to financially support this program offers teachers the opportunity to utilise resources for the entire year and encourage the students involved to learn about topics such as nutrition, resilience, physical activity and social inclusion.
Liddle takes great satisfaction in helping and inspiring others; he has a unique gift in this space and proactively seeks opportunities to see where he can assist and/or become involved and always does so with commitment and enthusiasm.
He is also a role model for other players thanks to his leadership and encouragement of others to also become involved in community and charitable activities.
