The Boston Red Sox made a flurry of moves at the trade deadline, adding multiple relievers to their bullpen in an effort to bolster their pitching staff. The team acquired Lucas Sims from the Cincinnati Reds, Luis García from the Los Angeles Angels, James Paxton from the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Quinn Priester from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Red Sox were active at the deadline, addressing a major area of need by adding depth and talent to their bullpen. Sims, García, and Paxton bring a wealth of experience and skill to the table, while Priester offers a promising young arm for the future.

“We’re excited to add these talented relievers to our bullpen,” said Red Sox General Manager Brian O’Halloran. “We feel like we’ve addressed a major area of need and improved our team’s chances of making a deep playoff run.”

Sims, 29, has been impressive this season with a 3.57 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 35.1 innings. He’ll slot into a high-leverage role in the Red Sox bullpen, providing a reliable arm for manager Alex Cora.

García, 25, has been lights out over the past six weeks, allowing just two runs in 14 innings. He’ll add a power arm to the Red Sox bullpen, capable of missing bats and shutting down opponents.

Paxton, 34, returns to the Red Sox after a stint with the Dodgers. The veteran lefty will provide a steady presence in the bullpen, capable of pitching in a variety of roles.

Priester, 22, is a promising young arm acquired from the Pirates. He’ll report to the Red Sox minor league system, but could see time in the majors later this season.

The Red Sox bullpen has been a weakness this season, but these additions should provide a significant boost. With Sims, García, and Paxton joining the fold, the team’s pitching staff looks much deeper and more formidable.

“We’re confident in our team’s ability to compete with anyone,” said Cora. “These additions give us a chance to make a deep run in the playoffs.”
