Series adaptation of James Patterson’s novels about the complicated and brilliant detective Alex Cross

Hodge is the third actor to play Cross, following Morgan Freeman, who first played him on screen in 1997’s Kiss the Girls and again in the 2001 sequel Along Came a Spider; and Tyler Perry as the titular character in 2012’s Alex Cross, which was a box office bomb and led Lionsgate to cancel the planned sequel Double Cross.

But the series waxes and wanes with an extended run of 8 episodes that doesn’t justify its runtime.

If only creator Ben Watkins had kept the script tighter and focused on the investigative elements rather than the main character’s personal struggles, this could have been a groundbreaking series

Ryan Eggold, Samantha Walkes, and Isaiah Mustafa shine in their supporting roles, but it’s Eloise Mumford and Karen Robinsen who capture the attention and steal the show from Aldis Hodge’s stellar lead performance.

Watchable, but don’t expect “Reacher” or “Sugar” levels
