Story

A modern-day tale of fortune-telling in the world of West Texas oil rigs

Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user ratings. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

They essentially manage the land and secure the leases so that they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, build housing for workers (man camps), set up excavation machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, troubleshooters, problem solvers, and facilitators.

I’m sure you’ll figure out which one!

Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the expectations that come with being a Yellowstone fan. The main story so far is interesting and exciting, without being overly over the top. There are a few subplots that develop well throughout the episodes, but perhaps one of them detracts from the overall quality of the series.

The cast fleshes out their characters well

The visual production deserves special mention; the direction and the creation of the environment are to be appreciated. It would be interesting to hear what people who work in the industry think about how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and really leads the show well.

Overall, a very good series, visually well executed and with excellent performances
